You may be asking yourself who is Scotty Kilmer, I did some research and gathered some interesting facts about him.
Table of Contents
Scotty Kilmer Age
Scotty Kilmer was born on October 2, 1953, making him roughly 65 years old. He was born in Niagra Falls, New York, and is a Libra. He and his wife Leslie have two kids Riley and Wyeth. He has a master’s degree from the University of Illinois and has published a book by the title of “Everyone’s Guide to Buying A Used Car,” in 1994.
Scotty Kilmer made a video in 2007 about his son Wyeth. Wyeth was in the 82 airborne “flying around” in Afghanistan. The video almost plays like an ad for the army, well it kind of is! Scotty basically says if you are looking for an exciting career you should choose the army. Here is a link to the video:
I can’t find any information about his other son Riley.
Scotty Kilmer Net Worth, YouTube Views, and Popularity:
He gained most of his popularity by creating YouTube videos about cars and car repair. I would argue he is more of an entertainer, rather than a step-by-step tutorial type guy. He mainly focuses on discussions of new cars, car problems, and offering up products on his YouTube channel. I think that has to do with the fact that he still gets a ton of views in 2018, and doesn’t have to do nearly as much work as actually producing repair videos.
Scotty Kilmer’s net worth is estimated upwards of 1.5 million. I would guess he probably has accumulated more wealth since then through affiliate marketing and youtube advertising.
Then, I did a ton of research and wrote a whole post about how popular Scotty Kilmer is on YouTube here. Or if you like drama more, check out this article on the beef between Scotty and Chrisfix here.

Best YouTuber for Car Repair Scotty Kilmer, Chrisfix, or Eric The Car Guy?
That really depends on what reason you are watching videos. Is it strictly for entertainment? Or are you actually trying to learn solid advice for repairing cars?
To see what happens when things don’t go exactly as planned watch Ericthecarguy. But if you want to see step-by-step tutorials that don’t include many mess ups, then watch Chrisfix.
If you’re looking to maybe learn a couple of things you can apply to cars, but not really any solid car repair tutorials watch Scotty Kilmer. Scotty Kilmer is more entertainment than step-by-step car repair videos. Whereas an ErictheCarGuy video might be 30 minutes to repair a brake master cylinder, the Scotty version would be five minutes of condensed steps (with more grunting).
Scotty Kilmer also got himself into a bind when he suggested using brake compression fittings for brake line repairs. Right on the box of the brake compression fittings, it said “off-road use only!”
Just because you saw on it YouTube, does not mean it is safe, correct, or right. Real professional mechanics don’t typically have time to also run a youtube channel and make videos. As a rule of thumb, do not put brake compression fittings on any streetcar (for that matter keep them off any cars and repair brake lines the correct way).
Scotty Kilmer and Brake Compression Fittings
Scotty Kilmer in one video encourages brake repair by using brake compression fittings. It caused a lot of stir online, including an entire article being written about how ScottyKilmer is dangerous. He has since removed the original video from YouTube. You can probably find a mirror or just search “Scotty Kilmer Brake Compression Fittings” on Google to see all the uproar the video caused.
Here is a video explaining why brake compression fittings are not safe, and how to properly repair brake lines:

Where does Scotty Kilmer live currently?
Scotty Kilmer currently lives in Texas, USA. But to protect his privacy I will not post any more than that.
Pro Tip: Just ride around Texas and listen out the window for him yelling “rev your engines!”
After all, I don’t think he wants visitors at his house to discuss car repair. He already probably gets recognized everywhere he goes by fans. That is probably why ChrisFix has chosen to hide his face in all his videos. I wrote an article about ChrisFix here, where I researched why he has decided to hide his face.
Scotty Kilmer’s Favorite Tools:
Scotty Kilmer is always promoting and introducing new tools on his channel. I think his tool reviews are pretty solid, however, they should always be taken with a grain of salt. He is sent many products as an affiliate with them hoping he leaves a good review on his channel and they get more sales.
One of the tools he recommends that I also really like is the Bluedriver Bluetooth OBD2 reader. It is a PERFECT gift for the auto DIY car repair beginner and is a scan tool that can do a ton for less than $100. The reason being is that for $100 roughly it gives you an OBD2 scanner that also has access to a library of resources that help you figure out what is wrong with your car. It is similar to what professionals use where they can search a specific make and model car, then enter the problem they have, and read what other mechanics have found fixed the problem.
Conclusion
Scotty Kilmer lives in Texas. He produces a couple of videos a week for YouTube and has a large number of subscribers. He is definitely more on the entertainment side of the car-repair videos spectrum– so take what he says with a grain of salt. If you are really trying to learn how to repair your car properly watch some of the more professional style videos/channels on YouTube. If you are watching his videos for entertainment and bits of information that are helpful, go for it. Just please don’t start telling people to put brake compression fittings on their rusted out brake lines!

I AGREE 100% WITH SCOTTY ABOUT THESE NEW CARS WITH GUPPY FRONT ENDS. THEY ARE UGLY. SOME SHOULD NOT EVEN BE DRIVEN IN DAYLIGHT.
HOWEVER, PEOPLE KEEP BUYING THEM. THEY EVIDENTLY NEVER LOOK AT THE FRONT ENDS.
